Can I catch COVID-19 from my beloved pet or other animals?
WHO reports that several dogs and cats in contact with humans have tested positive for COVID-19. There is however no evidence that these animals can transmit the disease to humans. With the limited information available to date, the risk of pets spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 in people is considered to be low.
But then what about the story that a human being somewhere ate a bat, contracted the disease then spread the disease to the rest of the world? Well, the exact source is not known but what is known is that it originally came from an animal, likely a bat.
Can I infect my pets and other animals with COVID-19?
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that it appears that the disease can spread from people to animals in some situations. So yes, please maintain the basic hygiene measures at all times. If sick with COVID-19, treat your pet like you would any person you interact with and minimize interactions as much as possible.
Is there a COVID -19 vaccine for dogs and cats?
At the moment, no.
Should my pet wear a mask?
No. Face masks may, in fact, cause breathing difficulties.
Stay safe. Protect yourself and your animals from COVID-19.
